  • McCallum Print Buys ESP Printing

The deal adds a 30,000-sq.ft. web operation to McCallum Print's 85,000-sq.ft. sheetfed printing plant.

Lisa Cross, Senior Editor -- Graphic Arts Online, November 18, 2009

McCallum Print Group, Seattle, acquired the graphic assets, clients, programs and equipment of heatset and narrow web commercial printer ESP Printing & Mailing in Kent, WA. ESP's 30,000-sq.ft. facility will serve as McCallum's web printing operation, supporting its 85,000-sq.ft. Seattle sheetfed and envelope production facility.

McCallum CEO Terry Storms says the new equipment from the deal will increase his company's scale in commercial and direct mail printing.

"A significant new offering will be the wide variety of inline finishing techniques including inline flood and spot UV coating on the entire web, as well as inline folding, gluing, perforating and sheeting," he says.

McCallum is part of Direct Connect Group, a national marketing service organization, offers a wide range of integrated direct marketing services including sheetfed and web offset print production, digital printing, envelope manufacturing, database management, mailing, distribution, assembly and fulfillment.

Cleveland-based Direct Connect Group also includes Print Communications, Inc. (PCI), a  web heatset, web non-heatset and sheet-fed printing company in Indianapolis;  HKM Direct Market Communications, Cleveland; McCallum Print Group; and West Caldwell and Whippany, NJ-based Corporate Communications Group. In 2008

DCG said it totaled 700 employees and over 810,000 sq.ft. of operations and warehouse space, with annual sales are $110 million.
