  • Goss Diversifies into Windpower

Goss International Will Manufacture Wind Turbine Components at New Hampshire Facility With Aeronautica Windpower

Press Release -- Graphic Arts Online, October 30, 2009

PLYMOUTH, Mass., Oct. 29-- Aeronautica Windpower has selected Goss International to produce a vital electromechanical component for mid-scale wind turbines that Aeronautica markets for commercial, agricultural and other uses.

Goss International, which manufactures some of the world's most productive printing equipment, will produce the nacelles at its facility in Durham, New Hampshire for Aeronautica using proven licensed designs for 225 and 750 kilowatt turbines. The nacelle assembly is the portion of the wind turbine at the top of the tower where the wind energy is captured and converted to electricity.

Aeronautica is based in Plymouth, Massachusetts and has an exclusive license to manufacture and distribute Norwin A/S turbines for the North American and other markets. Norwin, an established supplier of wind turbines for more than 20 years, is headquartered in Denmark.

"This agreement with Goss International gives us a reliable strategic relationship with a company that has a proven track record in manufacturing precision electromechanical components for commercial and industrial applications," explains Aeronautica Windpower president Jeff Warren. "The organization in New Hampshire has the expertise, the resources and the sophisticated infrastructure in place to manage the entire manufacturing process and meet the highest quality standards."

Goss will begin producing the nacelles using advanced assembly techniques, with many domestic materials, for turbines that will ship in the spring of 2010.

"This project is a good fit for the core competencies we have in engineering, machining and assembling high-tech printing equipment," according to Goss International CEO Jochen Meissner. "I am confident that our highly skilled staff will work well with the Aeronautica team to produce the best mid-scale wind turbines available in the market." Meissner noted that Goss has worked productively with several state departments including the Governor's office, the Department of Resource and Economic Development, and other elected officials to help bring this opportunity to manufacture energy efficient technology to New Hampshire.

Aeronautica Windpower markets mid-scale wind turbines for supplying clean electricity to schools and municipal buildings, commercial facilities, industrial parks, farms, ranches, neighborhoods, or smaller wind parks.

Goss International has manufacturing facilities in the United States, France, The Netherlands, Japan and China. The company specializes in producing high-precision Goss® web offset printing presses and finishing systems for newspapers, magazines and other higher-volume print applications.
