Reston, VA- NPES The Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies elected a new chairman, four new directors and re-elected several returning directors during its business meeting on October 24 at the organization's 2009 Annual Conference in Aventura, Florida.

D.J. Burgess, president and CEO of Burgess Industries, Inc., was elected chairman at the NPES 2009 Annual Conference.

    D. J. Burgess' career in the graphic communication industry has spanned more than three decades. As President and CEO of Burgess Industries, Inc., he serves the print market worldwide as a leading manufacturer of hardware and software automation management and handling technology.

Burgess Industries was founded as a manufacturer of patented imaging and processing products for microfilm and printed circuit boards; other technologies were added later through two acquisitions. Digital CtP imaging along with high-speed sheetfed and web press technology inspired Mr. Burgess to embark upon a major redesign of the company's image register-control, punching and plate bending systems, which led to Burgess pioneering their patented plate management and handling automation for "lights-out" fully integrated manufacturing.

Mr. Burgess has won numerous awards for marketing, automation, technology and industry leadership contributions. Most notably, in 2008, Burgess Industries, Inc. was the recipient of the prestigious NPES Harold W. Gegenheimer Corporate Award for industry service and leadership. Also in 2008, at drupa, Burgess earned three CIP4 international technology and innovation awards for the creation of the world's largest commercial print application of a fully automated and integrated system of plate handling and management at Cox Target Media.

Four new directors were also elected to the NPES Board for a three year term expiring at the 2012 Annual Meeting:

    • Mal Baboyian, President, Production Printing Systems, Oce North America
    • Mark Kannenberg, President, RBP Chemical Technology, Inc.
    • Ronald Rose, President, Nova Pressroom Products, LLC
    • Gina Testa, Vice President, Worldwide Graphic Communications, Xerox Corporation

"The NPES Board focuses on the strategy and direction for the premier association representing graphic communications industry suppliers," explained Ralph J. Nappi, president of NPES. "The contribution of these new directors, as well as our returning directors, will ensure that NPES serves our industry in an innovative and

responsive way for years to come."

Other directors re-elected to the board were:

    • Gary Dolgins, Director of Sales and Marketing, Blanchard Systems, Inc.
    • Michael Fox, President, Screen (USA)
    • Christopher Payne, Director, Business to Business Marketing & Vice President at Eastman Kodak Company
