Worldcolor, Montreal, will close its offset catalog printing plant in Olive Branch, MS, eliminating 240 jobs. Work from the plant will move to other facilities in the region, confirmed Tony Ross, World Color communications VP. Worldcolor also operates catalog plants in Corinth, MS; Jonesboro, AR; and in Clarksville and Dyersburg, TN.
The recession and postal rate hikes were cited as factors for the shutdown.
The Olive Branch plant, which was once an in-house print shop for Holiday Inn, will end production on Dec. 23. The print shop was sold to American Signature Graphics, which was purchased by Quebecor in1997. Quebecor bought World Color in 199 to become Quebecor World. In July, Quebecor World emerged from bankruptcy protection and announced it was changing its name to Worldcolor. Last month, Worldcolor introduced new branding and a new logo.
