  • Velocity Print Solutions Commits to Clean Energy

By Graphic Arts Online Staff -- Graphic Arts Online, January 12, 2009

A new agreement announced today between Velocity Print Solutions, Albany, NY, and Community Energy, Inc. commits Velocity Print Solutions to purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) equal to 100 percent of its energy use. The RECs will be supplied by wind energy marketer and developer Community Energy. Velocity is also a Leadership Club member in the EPA Green Power Partnership Program.
“We’re proud to step up as a leader in our industry, and to do our part for the environment. Our customers recognize and value the commitment we’ve made to a safe and secure energy future. It’s pleasing to know that our electricity use is now matched with clean, renewable energy. We hope others will follow our lead and make the choice as well,” said Jim Stiles, CEO of Velocity Print Solutions.
Velocity Print Solutions will purchase 1,368,000 kilowatt hours (kWhs) of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) in 2009. The environmental benefit from this purchase is estimated to be the equivalent of preventing 846 metric tons of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere, the impact of which is equivalent to planting more than 760 acres of trees each year or taking 177 cars off the road.
Velocity Print Solutions, a northeast based company with offices in Lynn, MA; Middlebury, CT and Scotia, NY, provides a complete range of services which include digital and offset printing, promotional products, mailing, distribution and fulfillment. Velocity is also a Certified Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody printer for all three locations. Customers can choose environmentally responsible paper for print projects and know that they are supporting the harvesting of wood from well managed forests. ---Press Release
