  • GRAPH EXPO: ISRA Showcases Printing Inspection System

By Graphic Arts Online Staff -- Graphic Arts Online, November 4, 2008

DULUTH, GA (Press Release) – ISRA SURFACE VISION, a subsidiary of ISRA VISION AG, will be among the top companies displaying print inspection technology at the upcoming GRAPH EXPO, October 26-29, 2008, at McCormick Place South in Chicago, IL. “No place is more important for gathering information on the newest technologies in commercial, package printing, and converting than in Chicago” says Brian Heil, President, ISRA SURFACE VISION. Visitors at our Booth 3892 will get to know some of our staff and they will receive complete information on the SMASH PRINT Inspection System.
The ISRA SMASH PRINT Inspection System offers unprecedented resolution at high speeds for reliable defect detection and classification. The scalable system offers superior image quality for any web width. The ISRA SMASH PRINT System provides printers with a solution for pre-press, on-press, and post-press converting of label, package, sheet or blank printed stock. Automated inspection reduces waste by providing immediate notification of repeating or continuous defects---such as haze and streaks. Selectable defect types are mapped and flagged. The ISRA Print Inspection System provides a sharp image of each defect and the location of the defect in each repeat.
Printing and embossing defects, color variations and surface defects on packaging and labels can significantly reduce the value of a product overall. For product liability, product and user information, such as expiration dates, barcodes, and intended use, which are listed on the packaging, must be correct, complete, and clearly legible. Fully automated inspection systems allow 100% monitoring and documentation throughout the print production process.
The algorithms of print inspection are based on a “golden template” comparison using a golden sample or reference image. This reference image is taken during the printing process by installed cameras and it is then filed. ISRA’s extensive image processing algorithms for print inspection allows for reliable inspection even if the web stretches or wanders. Using the high computation power of the ISRA SMASH WEB PROCESSOR and ISRA’s optimized software modules, these systems correct for position and transporting inaccuracies present in any packaging or label production process. This guarantees that product orientation, spacing, etc., does not interfere with the reliable detection of small defects. The inspection results are stored in the system database for easy review and control of the re-wind operation.
Color cameras enable color trending. If color deviations are of no importance, cost-effective, black and white cameras can be used. A simple user interface allows product changeover in seconds.
DataMining Software provides the user with a simple interface to spot process trends and evaluate raw material quality. High quality raw materials and more machine uptime are essential to realize margins necessary to maintain business position and to realize projected growth and profits. The DataMining Software provides a tool for defect reduction and process improvement.
Leading printers know that 100% print inspection provides a competitive edge by ensuring product quality and reducing production costs through production optimization.
ISRA is a global enterprise with a commitment to excellence in every aspect of its business---from hardware, software, service to total inspection solutions and worldwide support.
ISRA VISION is committed to advancing machine vision technology for process optimization. ISRA VISION is the global leader for 100% inspection of converted materials.
